The rainforest The Madagascan rainforest offers plenty of opportunities for exploration, both on foot and by boat. Do beware of the crocodiles that prowl these murky marshlands though. A.Lorgnier ©
The main feature of the Bemaraha region (in the west) is the presence of a long plateau, a deposit of massive, karstic and karren limestones, covered by the dry dense Antsingy forest in its western region. This western area displays a jagged relief. Water erosion has carved a tight network of deep cracks separated by fluted strips and sharp headlands, which are the very sharp and amazing 'Tsingys' (pronounce 'tsenge'). The forest is interspersed with savannah in the western half.
