The Flora Fest is a parade held each year in January since 1991. The Malaysians build superb chariots using fresh flowers. You will find an unbelievable quantity of different flowers: bougainvillea, chrysanthemum, frangipani, bird of paradise... The chariots are made by the different states of the country, the local authorities and private organisations. The parade is made up of 18 chariots and 18 different brass bands. It takes place on the Persiaran Perdana boulevard linking the Putrajaya International Convention Centre to the office of the Malaysian Prime Minister.
The ceremony starts early in the morning to avoid the heat of the day (generally from 8 to 10 AM). Each chariot stops before the grandstand where the King and Queen of Malaysia are seated. Different prizes are awarded, such as the trophy for the most imaginative or the most original chariot... And the First Trophy is based on several criteria: design, animation, floral arrangement... The event is even broadcast on local television.
If you miss the parade, don't panic: the chariots are then displayed under an air conditioned tent for three days, open from 10 AM to 10 PM. The entrance fee is RM 2 per adult and RM 1 per child.
