One of the favorite hobbies of the Malaysians is practising the peg top game. It is not a toy but rather a national sport. This game is known as gasing. Inter-village contests are actually organised. The most skillful players will make a peg top spin for over two hours!!! The object can weigh up to 5.5 pounds. It goes without saying that it requires a lot of strength, and as such, adolescents of less than 16 cannot take part in competitions. The size of the peg top varies from a small cylinder to an aerodynamic disc.
