In 1511, Albuquerque and the Portuguese landed in Malacca.
In 1641, the Portuguese were driven out of the territory by the Dutch.
In 1795, the English also landed.
In 1830, Malacca and Penang became British colonies.
1942 - 1945, the Japanese occupied the country.
In 1957, the Malay federation became independent, under the Commonwealth, and Abdul Rahman became Prime Minister.
In 1963, Malaysia was offficially formed.
In 1969,the country was torn by interethnic conflicts.
In 1970, Abdul Razak became Prime Minister.
In 1981, he was replaced by Mahathir ben Mohamad.
In 1989, the Sultan of Perak, Azlan Shah, became king.
In 1994, Abdul Rahman became Head of State.
In 1996, Mahathir Ben Mohamad remained Prime Minister.
In 1998, movements for his dismissal intensified.
In 2001, political opposition developed.
In 2002, the country recovered its growth (5%).
Today. Mizan Zainal Abidin is Head of State (since 2001) and Abdullah Bin Ahmad Badawi is Prime Minister (since 2003).
