On the western coast, north of the straits of Malacca, beaches on Langkawi and Pangkor islands are the most popular spots of Malay seaside tourism. As big as Singapour, Lanhkawi really witnessed the growth of tourist infrastructure in the 80s. Yet, it still looks like a rural Malay island with its rice fields full of water buffalo and its small villages. Tanjung Rhu site is one of the most elegant beaches in the island. Pangkor, much smaller, also has a beautiful shore and a hilly countryside covered with a superb jungle. Here too, tourist infrastructure is rapidly growing, notable on Teluk Nipah beach - the sweetest in the island.
