The port city of Malacca stands out from other Malaysian cities thanks to the incredible multiplicity of cultures coexisting therein. Here, Indians, Chinese, Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch and English previously lived together more or less peacefully. The Chinese neighbourhood contains numerous antique dealers with charming shops. You will equally find Little India and the Portuguese neighbourhood. In this historic centre, the Christ Church, a magnificient red church and the Stadthuys building, a former governors' residence are reminiscent of the Dutch era. The Saint Paul church and the Porte de Santiago, the only relics of the Portuguese A'Famosa fortress, are the main footprints of the Portuguese. The Malacca Sultanate Palace, a wooden replica of the sultan's home is splendid and houses a very pleasant museum. Do not miss out on the Chinese Cheng Hoon Teng temple, the Hang Li Poh wells and Saint John's fort. From the floating village, you will equally discover the Tanjung Kling neighbourhood with its numerous small traditional houses built on stilts and home to the fishermen.
