In the Sabah province, not far from Sandakan, a few thousand Sepilok orang-utangs still survive. In the Malay language, orang-utang means "man of the forest". These monkeys are easily recognisable. They have a short neck and a proportionately fat body. They are bowlegged with very long arms. They have a reddish brown coat. When the males reach their adult height, they can weigh up to 220 pounds and be up to 5 feet tall.
