The marine fauna is very diverse. There are over 200 coral species including fan corals, white or pink acroporas and stylophoras, fire corals, mushroom corals, giant gorgon and blue corals. Do not touch the coral because some species can cause stinging burns, while some break off easily, which destroys the reef. Over 1,000 fish species inhabit the coral forests. The most photogenic are the trumpet fish, royal angelfish (with a yellow and black body and mauve fins) and the sweetlip emperor. If you dive down the sheer slopes, you will find manta rays (with a fin span of 20 ft), white-spotted sharks and whale sharks.
