In Malé, visit the national museum located at Sultan's Park. Most of the collections are dedicated to the Islamic era; you will find royal clothing and jewellery, lacquered drums and miniature fishing boats. Some exhibitions are also reminiscent of the Buddhist era that preceded the conversion of the country to Islam. Do not miss out on the Buddha head made of white coral, or sculptures discovered in the temples located on the southern atolls. The details on the sculptures reveal that the temples were dedicated to Tantric Buddhism that is akin to Hinduism.
