Bamako

Bamako is a charming and extremely lively albeit slightly anarchic place. People often say there is no middle ground with Bamako: you either love or you hate it. Bamako is a city built along the Niger River along which you should have a little wander. Stop in the markets, stroll along the river and top it off by walking up the surrounding hills to get a panoramic view of the city.
