The Dogon Region

Southwest of Mopti is the Dogon region, the country's main tourist attraction, thanks to the original architecture of its villages and the strong cultural traditions of its people. Dogon is separated by a 125-mile long cliff, that peaks at 2,300 ft, going from Bankass in the south to Douentza in the north. On the slope of the cliff, at the peak of some rock slides, is where you will find the most beautiful Dogon villages. In particular, look out for Sangha, an area with 13 Dogon villages on the edge of the elegant Bandiagara cliff. Further off the footpath, visit the cliff between Ireli and Yendouma Ato, it is here that the most spectacular villages can be found!
