The culture of Martinique is fascinating in many ways. It has managed to preserve things of the past such as its Skiffs (Viking type boats) racing and cockfighting, which are ancestral practices, and steel-bands, blending modern and older types of music. Wickerwork and pottery, inherited from the Caribbean Indians, were carefully preserved. No raw material escapes the local handicraft.
