Martinique : Discover the country's culture and traditions

 Traditions and customs

It may appear cruel, but rooster or mongoose and snake fighting merely is a festive ritual in the West Indies. Every weekend, they attract many keen watchers and gamblers.
The most important celebration in Martinique is the Carnival which takes place from the Sunday after the Epiphany to Ash Wednesday. It is the opportunity for parades, dancing, beauty and costume contests in each and every village of the island.
