In Mauritania, you will probably be astonished by the variety of different desert landscapes. There isn't actually one sort of desert, but several. On the Atlantic Coast of the country, you will discover the seaside desert, which consists of sea rocks; inland, you will encounter the erg, a vast stretch of sand dunes. The most representative example of the latter is Erg Ouarane, a magnificent sand ocean situated at the gates of Chinguetti. Then there is the reg, which consists of rocks and stones and which you will find on the site where the film Fort Saganne was shot.
