Traditional Mauritanian dress consists of light clothing to protect against the sun and the heat as well as the sand storms. You will find a ?daraa', ?melahfa', loin cloths and even sandals made from gazelle skin. The Mauritanians also wear sarouel trousers. They are baggy trousers which are worn with a boubou. Held in at the waist by a leather belt the trousers are generally blue, black or white and they are perfect when it is very hot because the wide cloth allows air to move around.
