You go to Rodrigues to go back in time. Isolated in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the island seems to have hardly changed since the first settlers arrived - the French Huguenots - at the end of the 17th century. The hilly landscape where grass grows lavishly, villages and place names that are hardly noticed, and the few hotels and deserted beaches: Rodrigues is exotic, even for Mauritians. In one hour and a half by plane (2 to 3 flights per day) or 30 hours by boat (3 departures per month), you will arrive in a world where your days are taken up by relaxation, walking and scuba diving.
As for hotels, you are guaranteed to avoid impersonal complexes that are overcrowded with rooms and tourists. The largest hotel on the island has just 60 rooms. The hotels are mainly located in the areas around Port-Mathurin and on the east coast. The busiest season is in the winter, from mid-December to mid-January (which corresponds to the major holiday of Mauritius and Reunion). One of the least busy seasons, paradoxically, is the summer (July-August), because there is too much wind to dive and even to stay on the beach if you're sensitive to the cold.
It is possible to learn to dive to Rodrigues, as the lagoon provides a secure environment for your first try at it. Do not forget to bring a medical certificate which will give you permission to dive. Some centres allow children from the age of eight, such as the Cotton Dive Center of the Cotton Bay hotel.

Mauritius, All you need to know!
Mauritius is without a doubt unbeatable for its hotels. Whatever your taste, there's something for everyone at all four corners of the island. The great thing is that not all hotels have succumbed to over-sized gyms and all the rest of the sporting activities one might be looking for in a hotel, but ...
