On both sides of Flacq, the east coast has hotels that are usually of very good quality. They lie at the edge of beautiful beaches. Be aware, however, that the east coast receives twice as much rain as the west coast.
However, the place is ideal for sunbathing actively and hotels offer all kinds of water sports, and you should also visit the Ile aux Cerfs to take advantage of the mini-cruise and discover the lagoon with mask and snorkel. For shopping and outings in the city, you need to go to Port Louis (27 miles away).
If you prefer to make these trips without going in a group, you can rent a car or take the bus the same day. The rates for car rentals are relatively high and you should not forget that in Mauritius, driving is on the left. Take a taxi for the day, it is not as expensive as we imagined, it will cost about £50, and there is always the possibility of negotiating the rate with the driver. Another advantage of this service is that your driver will also act as a guide and will gladly show you Mauritius off the beaten track.
