From Pointe aux Piments to Grand Gaube, via Grand Baie, the northern coast offers the largest concentration of hotels in Mauritius.
Nevertheless, be reassured: almost all hotels are perfectly integrated into the landscape in the shadow of filaos and coconut trees. If you want to go out at night, choose a hotel in Grand Baie. However, if you prefer to relax, opt for a more distant hotel.
The northeast coast is home to legends of the hotel business such as the Royal Palm but also offers addresses that are full of charm. Be careful, however, concerning the beaches: the quality varies considerably depending on the hotel. If lazing around the edge of the lagoon is your priority, go to the coast of Peyrebère, Cap Malheureux and Grand Gaube.
The sites easily accessible from the north coast are the Pamplemousses botanical gardens, the Domaine des Pailles (a colonial village reconstructed around a distillery) and the colonial house Eureka. You can also visit Port-Louis (for its market and the Caudan seafront). Depending on the number of sites to visit, excursions take between half a day and a full day. It is possible to reserve a place on these excursions at most of the hotels.
