Very colourful, the Tamil temples display a profusion of frescos, statues and bas-reliefs enhanced by gilding. The sanctuary is surrounded by a courtyard which you enter through a very ornate porch. The major Tamil temple is in Sainte-Croix, not far from the capital city Port-Louis. Decorated in tones of yellow, green and pink, it has a very spacious courtyard opening onto a sanctuary adorned with volutes, flowers and stylised sea shells. There is a brazier at the entrance with incense burning in it.
