Grande Terre - Mount Benara Hiking up Mount Benara is not something to be taken lightly, but the panoramic views from the highest point on Grande Terre make the climb well worth the effort. © Christophe Valentin / Hoa Qui
Climbing Mount Benara (highest peak of Grande Terre, 2,164 ft) is an unmissable hike. The track starts in Tsaranano. You start walking in the forest, before reaching the Andalibe Pass. From there, the ridge line will take you to the peak of Mount Benara. The view, which is splendid, goes all the way to the north-east end of the island. You can then walk on the southern slopes down to Bandrélé; allow a whole day's walk for this hike.
