Airports
The principality does not have an airport. The nearest one is Nice-Côte d'Azur airport, 14 miles from Monaco. From the airport, Air Monaco has a helicopter shuttle which takes you to Monaco heliport, located on Fontvieille harbour. The trip Nice-Monaco heliport costs roughly 60 euros one way. There are several daily air-links and the trip is 7 minutes long. A shuttle service will then take you to your hotel. From Nice airport, a bus leaves from both terminals every hour, from 9 am to 9 pm. The trip is 45 minutes long and the bus stops at several places in the Principality, and particularly at the hotels. Finally, by taxi, allow 90 euros for the fare from Nice airport. Intercity buses link Monaco up to neighbouring towns such as Menton, Villefranche sur Mer, and Cap d'Ail. Monaco's railway station is served by trains coming from Marseilles (on the Marseilles-Milan line), Paris (Paris-Ventimille), Nice (Nice-Ventimille which has a connection with the Paris TGV) and Saint Raphael in summer.

Security
The principality of Monaco is one of the world's safest destinations. This is what you need to ensure peace and safety for the international jet-set. Consequently, the territory is bristling with CCTV which have an eye on the slightest misconduct. It is recommended then not to be too boisterous.

Languages
The official language is French but expect to hear a surprising number of foreign languages spoken there. Italian and English are the most widely spoken.

Requirements
For a stay of less than three months, a valid identity card or passport is sufficient to enter the principality. Beyond that, you must ask for a resident's permit. The request is done at the resident department of the public security administration: 3, rue Louis-Notari, MC 98000 Monaco. Tel: 00 377 93 15 30 17.

Religion
The population are a majority of Catholics.

Currency
The currency is the Euro. You will not have any problem exchanging currency, but you can be pretty sure that given the high cost of living here, your wallet is sure to feel the strain! You'll find ATM machines just about everywhere in the city. Banks are open from Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 12:00pm and from 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

Local transportation
The principality's bus network goes through and through the territory: Monaco-city, Fontvieille, the railway station, the casino, Larvotto and Monte-Carlo beaches. Its five lines run from 7 am to 9 pm every day of the week and on Sundays from 7.30 am to 8.45 pm.
If you are driving, you need to know that the access to Monaco-city is prohibited to any vehicle not registered within the principality or the Alpes-Maritimes French area. Likewise, the Old City is entirely reserved to pedestrians, as well as Princesse-Caroline street and a part of Princesse-Antoinette street. The speed limit is 30 mph everywhere in Monaco. As distances are very short, it is recommended to leave your car at the car park. You can rent a car with a national driving licence but you have to be at least 23 years old. The Old City is to be visited on foot and the rest of the time, why not use the bus. You will find a large number of car rental agencies and even be able to allow yourself the luxury of a chauffeur-driven limousine, so as to get into the swing of things.
The principality being built on the cliffside, you will find lifts everywhere to take you up to different sites, without tiring yourself out.
