Altaï

Altaï

Over 700 miles, south-east of Ulan Bator, Altai is an ideal stopover before a little trip into the Gobi desert. It is indeed possible to get supplies from there. The town is overlooked by the Khadagt Khairkhan Uul towering at an altitude of 11,740 feet. While visiting, you will discover Dashpeljeelen Khiid, a small monastery built in 1990, in which about thirty monks live. On week days, you can visit the museum of the aimag which displays, amongst other objects, the costume of a shaman and music instruments.
