During Nadaam festival, generally held on 11th, 12th and 13th July, the anniversary of the Mongol revolution in 1921, you can watch tournaments of the three major sports practised in the country: wrestling, horse-riding and archery. The festival gathers many tourists nowadays around Sukhbaatar square, in Ulan Bator, where monks, athletes and the army all parade along one another. Some 500 people take part in the wrestling matches. Nowadays, it is generally children from the age of 3 to the age of 10 who compete for the Naadam's horse-riding race. Depending on the age of the horse, they run for 3 to 18 miles.
