Podgorica, the old Titograd, is the capital city of Montenegro located in the south of the country, on the confluent of the Zeta and the Moraca. The city has no remarkable monuments, but you can still see the remains of Nemanjic castle, the first of the Serbian buildings of the area. The Old Town still has a few picturesque Turkish houses, the 10th century Saint George church, as well as the clock tower (Sahat-kula) are worth a look. The speciality of the region is a gusle, a music instrument typically Montenegrin, which is a sort of one-string violin used to give rhythm to the traditional songs. A particularly recommended trip is that to Lake Scutari 11 miles South from the city. The lake, shared by Serbia and Montenegro, is 25 miles long by 7 miles wide. The water, full of fish, makes it an ideal site for fishing. Islands dot the lake and hold a few monuments, such as the 10th century Ostros convent or the 15th century Beska monastery.
