Some 25 miles south of Tangier, the small town of Asilah offers a peaceful break inside its fortified ramparts dating back to the 15th century. From the heights of the ochre walls, flanked by two bastions, you can admire the sea, the Medina and alleys lined with white houses. The façades of the city provide a background for mural frescoes. The Raissouli palace, built at the turn of the century, has been transformed into a cultural centre today. The city also hosts a music festival in August.
