 Shopping

Roaming from one stall to another, you will find many shops and workshops in a maze of streets filled with the ?hustle and bustle' of trading: this is what the delightful souk is all about. On Sundays in Ouarzazate, you will find henna, roses, cumin, Berber potteries, carpets and blue and golden yellow uzguita blankets. In the Drâa Valley: a souk at Agdz on Thursdays and at M'hamid on Mondays. In the Dadès valley: a souk at the Skoura palm grove on Mondays and Thursdays and at Boulamne on Wednesdays. In the Ziz Valley: a souk at Er Rachidia on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and at Erfoud every day. It is at Erfoud that you will find the famous dates, sand roses and engraved desert stones. Tamegroute, in the Drâa village, is known for its potters who create platters, jugs and jars cooked in open air archaic ovens. Bargaining is common practice here and you often end up having a friendly conversation over a cup of tea with a trader. However, before haggling, it is best to take a walk around to familiarise yourself with the current prices of things or else buy from handicraft cooperatives. Although the latter are more expensive, at least you are sure of the quality of the products. In regards to opening times, shops don't really have set hours; they are generally open from 9:00 am to 12:00 am and from 2:30 pm to 6:00pm. They close on Fridays or Saturdays, and almost always on Sundays. The souks also sell products from other regions, such as copper trays and blue pottery from Fes, slippers from Marrakech, jewels from Essaouira and particularly spices from all the other regions.
