Separated from Spanish coasts by the Strait of Gibraltar, the former artistic capital remains shrouded in mystery. The 9 April 1947 Square, or Grand Socco, comes to life in the hustle and bustle of the markets. The Petit Socco, surrounded by old hotels and numerous cafes, lies in the Medina. It can be covered in two hours. Located on the heights of the Medina and surrounded by ramparts, the Casbah houses the Dar el Makhzen. Zelliges and marble adorn this splendid 17th century royal palace.
