The Atlantic coastal region is home to stands of cork oak, while evergreen oak, cedar, and pine forests can be found on the slopes of the Atlas. The steppe region is filled with shrubs and jujube trees, and along the wadis there are poplars, willows, and tamarisks. Olive trees can be found throughout the region, but the oil-yielding argan tree, unique to Morocco, grows only in the Sous Valley. The desert is void of vegetation except for occasional oases. This region is also home to panthers, jackals, foxes, and gazelles, and the surrounding waters abound in sardines, anchovies, and tuna.
