Along the 2,000 mile shoreline, the beaches of Mozambique are certainly the most beautiful beaches on the African coast. Lined with palm trees and covered in soft white sand, they are paradise for sunbathing and swimming. Several islands, such as Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque, Santa Carolina and the Inhaca islands.
They also offer many water sports activities, particularly scuba diving as the underwater wildlife is fascinating. The main diving sites are Ponta d'Ouro, Ilha da Inhaca, Barra, Bazaruto and Pemba: all these sites display a wide variety of fish and well-preserved coral. You can also catch a glimpse of some sharks, dugongs and other sea mammals.
In the southeastern areas, between Ponta d'Ouro and Inhassoro, fishing is one of the main activities practised there, together with surfing (Ponta d'Ouro and Tofinho) and snorkelling..
The 125 mile long coast in the south has the most popular beach resorts (they are fully booked during the South African and Zimbabwean school holidays), one reason for this could be the risky northern roads which can be a real challenge to navigate.
