The Namib Desert The ocean side of the Namib, a desert which descends to the sea. It is slowly moving into the ocean, stealing its space inch by inch. Michael Poliza / age fotostock
The Namib desert stretches along the coast as far as Lüderitz. Not far from Lüderitz, you can visit the ghost towns of Pomona and Elisabeth Bay slowly disappearing under the sand. You will seek coolness around Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. There you can go fishing, watch birds, go touring and see tens of thousands of sea lions, in Cape Cross. Some of you, brave enough, will try and swim in the not so warm sea. To sum up, this coast is lined with tons of sand, but apart from surfing, sea side activities are very limited. You can however fly over the desert, in a small aircraft, or go for a ride on camel back.
