Founded over 2,500 years ago, Swayambunath is one of the world's oldest Buddhist sanctuaries. Go around the immense stupa and visit the lamas' monastery (service around 3 PM). Do not miss, from the top of the 300 steps of the main stairway, the sublime viewpoint of Kathmandu, in the late afternoon.
