Grande Terre - The lagoon Grande Terre is a perfect spot for diving. Coral, shallow beds, harmless wildlife and warm waters make the lagoon a real underwater paradise. Snorkelling is another good way of experiencing this underwater world. A.Lorgnier ©
Grande Terre's lagoon holds numerous diving sites. The boldest among you will try out the Faille aux Requins, Shark Fault, off Bourail. In this deep sea-corridor, you can see guitarfish and black spotted rays. Those of you who enjoy visiting geological curiosities should take a dip at Prony needle, at the southernmost point of the island. There you will find immersed limestone concretions, 124 ft high, which form a kind of natural cathedral. On the east coast, off Hienghène, the dive is done on a 32 to 82 ft stretch, within a maze of caves brightened up by the napoleon fish and parrot fish.
