New Caledonia is an archipelago which consists of three groups of islands. Grande Terre is the main island. Located 15 miles from the southernmost part of Grande Terre, the Isle of Pines is 11 miles long and 9 miles wide. It is large enough not to feel cramped, and small enough to allow you to explore many sites on foot. Finally, the Loyalty Islands (Lifou, Maré, Ouvéa) are located 30 miles east of Grande Terre.
