The Isle of Pines - Upi Bay Upi is well worth a visit for its coral life and its bay, not to mention the lovely walks to be enjoyed through the island's famous native coral reef araucaria trees. ©Gil Giuglio
Located east of Vao, Saint Joseph's beach is the starting point of a pirogue ride onto Upi Bay. Within three hours, you can reach the far end of the bay, then carry on, on a 45 minute walk to the site of Oro, where you can find a natural swimming pool carved out of the corals. The place, lined with Cook pines, is just sumptuous. Upi Bay, very rich in coral formations, is also a good snorkelling opportunity. Choose to do this rather than go on the traditional glass-hull boat ride.
