Vao is the Isle of Pines' main town. It has eight districts which have kept the names of the 8 tribes who originally lived on the island. The church dates back from the 19th century. A path leaves from the church to the sanctuary of Notre Dame de la Salette. Perched on a promontory, it overlooks a great part of the bay.
