The kauri

The most impressive tree of New Zealand is the kauri, of the same family as sequoias. These trees grow particularly slow : it takes them 800 years to reach their maximum size ! If you want to see them, go to Waipoua State Kauri Forest located North-East of Auckland. The largest ones are 50 metres high and the circumference of their trunk is over 10 metres. As for their age, it makes you wonder: these giants are over 1,000 years old!
