The summer months guarantee an increase in air travel and passenger intake, but this August Singapore's Changi Airport recorded a ground-breaking increase of 16% in air traffic, a 4.5% increase from the previous month. The figures indicate that there has been a significant upsurge in both passenger traffic and flight numbers, which have been continually rising since July of 2017.

Singapore's principal airport has recorded an impressive double-digit increase of 16 per cent. Other airlines who have also achieved this scale of growth include those in Germany, the United Arab Emirates and the USA. The Singaporean airport has recorded consistently high air traffic for the past seven months and there is little to suggest that this will slow down any time soon.

In the last month alone the airport has logged 5.42 million passengers and over 30,000 flights. This is hardly surprising as Changi Airport is served by over 100 airlines, connecting Singapore to 380 cities in 90 countries world-wide. One statistic suggests that every 90 seconds an aircraft lands or takes off from Changi Airport.

There are multiple reasons as for why Singapore is experiencing such major increase in air traffic, one being their addition of routes specifically to and from India. In fact, there has been an all-round increase in routes to South East Asia, North East Asia and Oceana, which are responsible for 90 per cent of the growth in passenger traffic.

Additionally, new services have been launched such as flights to Melbourne, Dhaka and Bangladesh, as well as the establishment of new city links to Wellington (New Zealand), Dusseldorf (Germany) and Canberra (Australia). It is a busy and prosperous time for Singapore's Changi Airport with new restaurants, shops and other facilities adding to the airport's all-round impressive growth.
