The Qatari owners of Harrods have revealed plans to open a chain of branded hotels in major tourist destinations across the world. Cities announced include New York, London and Paris.

The first hotels to be built will be on sites already owned by Qatar, such as Chelsea Barracks in London and Costa Smerelda in Sardinia. The opening of the Chelsea hotel will provide more choice for high-budget visitors to London seeking luxury and a five star service.

Already a renowned name and a must-see in London, Harrods now sets upon brandishing its stamp across the world for travellers to enjoy a superior hotel experience. Furthermore, the international nature of the project means that British tourists can enjoy the comfort of the Knightsbridge label in travel hotspots far from home.

Qatar Holding, which is part of Qatar's sovereign wealth fund, has also declared that it has signed a contract with Malaysian property developer Jarantas to build a Harrods hotel in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, near to the highly acclaimed Pavilion Kuara Lumpar shopping mall. Holiday-goers to Kuala Lumpa, the sixth most visited city in the world according to Euromonitor International, will have 300 hotel rooms and apartments at their feet, as well as retail space covering 5.5 acres. Construction for this site is due to start in 2013 although no completion date has been announced.
