The Middle of the World theme park in Ecuador which until recently claimed to be at exactly 0° latitude, has admitted that this is not exactly true.
The theme park is actually located 240 north of the Equator, meaning the half-a-million tourists that visit the site every year have been fooled. There is even a line outside the park which claims to trace the Equator, yet this too is in the wrong place.
This must be disappointing news for all those travellers who believe they have stood with one foot in each hemisphere, only to find they were actually just stood on a yellow line.
The real 'middle of the world' - Inti-ņan celebrates its location in a rather underwhelming fashion in comparison to the theme park. Here there is simply a sign hung on a gate stating that GPS has calculated it to be situated at 0° latitude exactly.
