The headquarters of many different civilisations, Nigeria has the richest culture in Western Africa. 2,000 years old, Nigerian culture finds its roots in the Nok people, who left behind the oldest known statues in Sub-Saharan Africa. Nigerian artists find their inspiration in the supernatural and animism.
Nigeria is famous for its wooden sculptures (masks, mascots) that the different ethnic groups still use today during traditional rituals and plays. Nigerians have also developed different styles of music based on traditional Yoruba chant and free jazz, giving birth to Afro-reggae and Afro-beat.
