The phenomenon of the Aurora Borealis You can admire the Aurora Borealis phenomenon in the most northern areas of Norway, such as Tromso. © Corbis / Age Fotostock
The Elders thought them to have supernatural powers. They interpreted it as the foreboding of tragic events. It is in the far north, especially, on clear days in autumn or spring, that you can have the opportunity to admire this fascinating light phenomenon. An aurora borealis is provoked by contact between ionised solar particles attracted to the magnetic poles and the atmosphere. The dominant green light mixed with purple gives the effect of a glowing mist.
