The inhabitants are very unaffected people, in the good sense of the term. Except for with the royal family, Norwegians address each other in an informal manner, whether it be the baker, their boss or a policeman.
For great occasions, the Norwegians continue to wear the bunad, the national costume. You can admire this outfit on the occasion of the national holiday, on May 17th, or during private or family ceremonies.
Since June 1st 2004, it is forbidden to smoke in all public places, including restaurants, bars and cafés. This measure has the objective to protect employees in these places against passive smoking, as well as also contributing to decreasing the number of smokers in the country. Another dissuasive measure is the price, around £6.50 for 20 cigarettes.
