No longer the panic that comes with thinking you've overslept and missed your flight, all because of that far-too-tempting snooze button. An alternative for those who struggle to make it out of bed in the morning, this IQ alarm clock from designer Oliver Sha will have you mentally aware and prepared for whatever the day brings, before you've even had your first cup of coffee.
Though it uses the conventional alarm sound to drag you from your dreams, the design overlooks the usual snooze button in favour of a series of quiz questions, of which you have to answer three correctly in order to shut it up. It's either that or holding down the power button for 30 seconds - the battery compartment has sneakily been made to keep out prying fingers.
There are a wide range of questions (difficulty and number are both adjustable), including picking the odd one out from a selection of pictures and maths problems, with the only relief appearing in the form of a hint button. Helpfully, when it's not berating your barely-conscious brain with mentally stimulating questions, it displays the time, date and weather forecast for your location - always useful for deciding on the day's outfit.
It's one in a long series of innovative new alarm clocks, designed to get you ready and raring to go for the day ahead, using a range of ingenious techniques, from making you chase them around the room to wailing so loudly that they could wake an entire street.
Unfortunately, over-sleepers will have to wait a little longer for this geeky delight, which is currently still in concept form, but will be available from Yanko Design in the near future. Keep a weather eye on their website.
