Karachi, the country's largest city, which used to be the capital city is located on the coast of the Arabian Sea, at the mouth of the Indus. Capital city of the Sind province, it is a bustling industrial and commercial city, which somehow looks like it is permanently in the course of being demolished. Although it is a necessary stopover when flying, it doesn't really offer any major tourist attraction, except for its fishing harbour where pretty little dhows, abundantly decorated with garlands and cheerful paintings, are gathered. You can rent a fishing boat out for a day and go scuba-diving. Some monuments do deserve a visit, such as the Masjid-i-Tuba great mosque and the Quaid-i-Azam mausoleum, which shelters Ali Jinnah's body, Pakistan's founder. The national museum in Karachi is also worth a detour, for its beautiful collections of Hindu sculptures and relics from the remains of Mohenjo Daro. Finally, in the city centre, you can have a pleasant walk in the maze of bazaars in the Saddar district on a handicraft hunt.
