Mennonite communities

In Paraguay, the Mennonite communities of Chaco, mostly Russian and German descendants, possess their own banks, schools and hospitals. They have created a small prosperous economical system in a quite inhospitable place. It is based essentially on the cultivation of citrus, peanuts and cotton. Half of the national milk production comes from this region.
