The region of Chaco

In the North, the region of Gran Chaco is a 95,350 miles˛ (that is to say 61 % of the territory) where less than 100,000 inhabitants live. Further north, High Chaco is a large impenetrable forest which you can drive across on the Trans-Chaco. Lower Chaco is a region of savannah and palm trees often flooded by a permanent layer of fertile silt forming little islets. By following the great Paraguay river, all the way to Asuncion, you will drive across a vast fertile plain planted with forests. Close to Filadelfia, the zone is essentially inhabited by Mennonites and (at an altitude between 300 and 600 metres) cut across by the Paraná river.
