In the Philippines, Easter celebrations are held throughout the entire country.
The Philippines is a country with one of the biggest Catholic populations in the world. Numerous festivals and processions take place all year long but Easter is certainly one of the main events. Lent is celebrated by the Filipinos in a very festive atmosphere, as is tradition in the country. Religious ceremonies are associated to the dramatisation of events; the events are full of life, fervour and devotion that can be quite a sight to see. Some of the events can seem barbaric to Westerners (the real life 'crucifixions', the flagellations etc) but for the penitent Filipinos it is a way to prove their faith and get closer to God.
