Warsaw

Warsaw, Poland's capital, is divided into two by the Vistula. It was devastated during World War II and consequently rebuilt. The Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Begin your tour with a visit to the market square with its numerous cafés and restaurants; then go to see the Royal castle, which was admirably rebuilt after the war; before going on on to Wilanow Palace, which holds a rich collection of paintings and old furniture. It is also worth passing by the Jewish cemetery on Okopowa street, which bears witness to the Jewish community exterminated by the Nazis. If you walk along Royal Way, the city's main avenue, you will see Radziwill Palace (now the government headquarters), the Church of the Holy Cross, which holds Chopin's heart, and the White House, an old royal residence which has been converted into a Museum.
