On Terceira, the village of Angra do Heroismo is listed as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Its bay is dominated by the peaks of Monté Brazil and its port is where the galleons would set off for the Americas. It is also where Vasco de Gama buried his brother in 1499, after his first voyage to India. The most curious tourists will climb Monté Brasil to take the unique opportunity to see one of the most beautiful panoramas of the port. The town museum, dedicated to its history and the history of the archipelago, is also worth a look.
