Standing on the plain of Alentejo, the small town of Evora, surrounded by fortifications, is a pleasant display of roman, medieval and classical architecture. It was the king's residence for a long time and the town's religious fervour is shown through its many churches, monasteries and chapels. Explore them by strolling around in the charming alleyways. We recommend that you start from the cathedral near the rua 5 Outubro which leads to praça do Giraldo, the main square with pretty arcades of Moorish inspiration.
